This gear is mounted on the end of the crankshaft of 4 cylinder VW Diesel engines (AAZ, 1Z, AHU). It drives timing and accessory belts. The integrated key on the back side, especially on the version for the AAZ engine, can wear over time and lead to timing belt and engine failures.
